Move a Product from Research to Quotation

Confirm researched products and create the sourcing work needed for a quotation decision.

Before you begin

Confirm that the product has a stable SKU, useful Research evidence, and an appropriate research status. You need access to both Research and Quotation in the same organization. Review parent and child variations before moving a selection so the intended product scope is clear.

How it works

The workflow action creates or prepares Quotation work from an existing Research identity. CapitalOS asks for confirmation because the destination begins a different decision stage with sourcing costs, supplier participation, pricing tiers, and approval statuses. The Research record remains the evidence source rather than being replaced.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Research and locate the product by SKU.
  2. Review its validation evidence, status, priority, and variation hierarchy.
  3. Select the intended parent or product rows.
  4. Choose the supported action to move or prepare the selection for Quotation.
  5. Review the confirmation summary, destination, and selected record count.
  6. Cancel if the selection includes unintended children, duplicates, or incomplete identities.
  7. Confirm the transition when the scope is correct.
  8. Open Quotation and search for the same SKU.
  9. Review the new quotation record before adding costs or assigning external work.

Check your result

The product appears in Quotation under the same organization SKU and retains its relationship to the Research stage. Expected variations are present or can be managed from the quotation workflow. The Research record remains available for reference.

Common problems

The workflow action is unavailable: check selection compatibility, product status, SKU completeness, and Quotation access.

The product already exists in Quotation: open the existing record rather than creating duplicate sourcing work.

Only part of a variation group moved: return to Research and confirm which parent and child rows were selected.

The destination looks empty: clear Quotation filters and search the exact SKU in the same organization.

Permissions and data notes

Moving a product requires suitable access in both modules. A transition does not mean the product has an approved supplier or complete economics. Treat the new record as a starting point for quotation review and verify all inherited identity before adding commercial terms.
